Here is a newspaper article about Rev. Latham Wright. He founded Troop 47 in 1957 at the Elizabeth United Presbyterian Church.
Make sure to read the accounts of Eagle Scout Jim Barnes. Jim was active in the troop from 1958 until 1963 and wrote a great narrative for the troop. He also supplied many of the photos that we have shown below.
Also read the accounts of Scoutmaster Jim Johnson. Mr. Johnson was Troop 47's Scoutmaster on two separate occasions in the 1950's and 1960's and was also a District Scout Executive for a time.
Here is an interview and stories that were told by Scoutmaster Carl Hertle. Mr. Hertle was Troop 47's Scoutmaster from 1970 - 76.
And here is an interview of Sam and Jan Hecht. The Hecht family was very involved with both Pack and Troop 47 for at least 15 years from the early 1980's to the mid 1990's and have two Eagle Scout sons. Jan was a den leader, cub master, and assistant scoutmaster. Sam was an assistant scoutmaster and troop committee chairman.
